Since 2004, the program has been supported by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. In 2008 the program expanded to Pittsburgh and smaller metropolitan areas, and since 2013 it has been available statewide. Since 1993 PHS has trained over 4,500 Tree Tenders in 150 Pennsylvania neighborhoods.
