Last week, Senators Schumer and Manchin announced a compromise on a reconciliation bill, called the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 , that includes significant climate and air quality progress and a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions nationwide by 40 percent by 2030. What’s in the bill? But this bill is a big step forward.

Air pollutants from coal plants are linked to chronic heart and respiratory disease, and a host of acute ailments. Years later, it has still made no progress – and Canadian ports continue to ship coal.
