Planets in Alpha Centauri could be carbon-rich – if they exist

Physics World

Planets orbiting the Sun-like stars of Alpha Centauri could be carbon-rich worlds with diamonds and graphite littered across their surfaces, say astronomers. So far, astronomers have discovered one confirmed exoplanet (and two strong candidates) orbiting Proxima, but a 2012 “discovery” of a planet orbiting Centauri B was later disproven.

Something Stinks: California Must End Manure Biomethane Accounting Gimmicks in its Low Carbon Fuel Standard

Union of Concerned Scientists

Each credit one metric ton of carbon dioxide equivalent pollution below the standard. I’ve written recently about why a Cap on Vegetable Oil-Based Fuels Will Stabilize and Strengthen California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard , which addresses the bio-based diesel credits. An abnormally dry subject: drought

HumanNature

Alarmingly, a drought in 2012 cost the agricultural industry $30 billion (Rippey 2015). In general, increased carbon dioxide from human activities will lead to higher temperatures. Losses of water from the soil and plants will lead to immediate losses of moisture to the atmosphere. drought of 2012. Rippey, BR.

Back in Black: Creating positive changes by focusing on a short-lived pollutant

HumanNature

When fuels are burned to create energy in a process called combustion, black carbon along with carbon monoxide and other compounds are created because there is not enough oxygen in the atmosphere for the reaction to go to completion. Whenever there are combustion processes, of which there are many in our industrial society (e.g.,

The Real Cost of Food

Acoel

This land used to be vast wetlands, native grass-covered prairie, or forest — natural systems adept at storing carbon, producing abundant wildlife, and filtering polluted water but over time has been converted for agricultural use. For example, between 2007 and 2012, 7.8 Nitrous oxide is even more damaging to our atmosphere.

COP28: “The Methane COP”

Legal Planet

This shift is good news because tackling methane is crucial to the fight against climate change due to its significantly higher global warming potential than CO2, the disposal of relatively cheap methods of controlling emissions, and its short atmospheric lifespan. Notwithstanding, COP’s outcomes are still important.

Environmental activism in Latin America

Our Environment

Replacing these massive carbon sink forests with machinery which continuously pumps vast amounts of carbon dioxide into the Earth’s atmosphere is increasing the rate of global warming.
