Workers in facilities that produce and use EtO as well as people living near facilities that release it into the atmosphere are at risk of unsafe exposures even when the facilities are using the best available technologies to handle and contain it. Have I been exposed to ethylene oxide?

In 1963, a typical car—which ran on leaded gasoline without pollution control devices— emitted 520 pounds of hydrocarbons, 1,700 pounds of carbon monoxide, and 90 pounds of nitrogen oxide every 10,000 miles traveled. At the end of 2022, there were more than 283 million. Even so, cars and trucks are still making us sick—and killing us.
