By refusing to admit the economic, employment and environmental benefits of clean energy, the government is depriving Ontario ratepayers of more affordable bills and making our electricity dirtier than it has been in years. In fact, studies show that clean energy is a more affordable option than continuing to rely on fossil fuels.

Last week, on Monday November 14, as part of its Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review , the Ontario government officially announced it would be developing a voluntary clean energy credit (CEC) registry. Now, the Ontario government is crafting an official Clean Energy Credit system that will presumably require transparency.

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) and Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) announced that proposed amendments to the state’s Clean Energy Standard (CES) were finalized earlier this month without substantive changes from draft language initially proposed by the agencies in April 2022.

To no one’s surprise it contained zero funding to address climate change – not even for clean energy – which the document referred to multiple times. As a result, between 2005 and 2017 greenhouse gas pollution from Ontario’s electricity system dropped by 93 per cent. It will be something to watch.
