Germany decides to phase out nuclear power, complicating efforts to decarbonize the power sector. Germany agrees on EU regulation to make cars carbon neutral by 2035 (either zero emissions or net-zero). Germany has dragged its feet on EVs because of its powerful car industry.

The PA Coal Alliance said, “In February of 2014, during a cold snap, PJM found that 23% of total generator outages were due to interruptions of natural gas supply, and in January of 2018, during the polar vortex, half of the total PJM natural gas capacity was not available to supply peak demand.” Read more here.

On September 10, 2018, the brand new Energy Transfer Revolution Pipeline in Beaver County exploded sounding like a meteor or airplane hit the ground.

In addition, FirstEnergy—owner of the two uneconomic nuclear power plants H.B. 6 originally bailed out—reported in a 2018 bankruptcy filing that it lost $12 million annually due to its stake in OVEC, and Ohio legislative analysts discovered that Ohio utilities paid $94 million over market prices for OVEC’s electricity in 2018.
