That would of course include fossil gas, which consists of 85 to 90 percent methane, a significantly more potent heat-trapping gas than carbon dioxide. A 2022 study found that gas stoves leak methane, and more than three-quarters of the emissions occurred when the stoves were off. Likewise, they have been busy shoring up their markets.
