Ninth Circuit Reinstated Listing of Bearded Seal as Threatened Based on Climate Change Projections. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a district court decision that vacated the listing of the Beringia distinct population segment (DPS) of the Pacific bearded seal subspecies as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

USFWS: The agency is proposing listing the Sacramento Mountains checkerspot butterfly (E uphydryas anicia cloudcrofti ) as an endangered species. This proposed rule contrasts the Fish and Wildlife Service’s 2004 and 2009 determinations that the species did not warrant protections. This butterfly is native to New Mexico.
