In the US, almost every aspect of the environment is regulated - drinking water, surface water, air, hazardous waste, new construction, nuclear power plants, factories, and much more. TSCA the Toxic Substances Control Act , which sounds good but doesn't seem to do anything, aims to test and manage new chemicals in the marketplace.
