The IPCC calls this a “robust acceleration ( high confidence ) of global mean sea level rise over the 20th century”, as did the SROCC in 2019. That’s because huge ice sheets take a long time to melt in a warmer climate, and the ocean waters take a long time to warm up as you go further down, away from the surface.
