I moved to Merced in 2015 to study for my PhD, and I found a place I could call home. The American Lung Association’s State of the Air report measures three of the major types of pollutants in the San Joaquin Valley: long-term particle matter, short-term particle matter, and ozone. Ozone plays a dual role in our atmosphere.

Ohio EPA has proposed rules that will require additional Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) and Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emission controls for certain manufacturing and industrial operations located in the Cincinnati and Cleveland 2015 ozone nonattainment areas. Like VOCs, NOx is a precursor compound which can form ozone.

A local air district approved a rule requiring warehouses to adopt clean technologies or pay a mitigation fee. The WAIRE Program essentially requires warehouse operators to take actions to electrify warehouse activities and the trucks that visit warehouses in order to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) and diesel particulate matter (DPM) emissions.
