The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has known for years that emissions of ethylene oxide —a colorless, odorless gas used to sterilize medical equipment and some food products—pose a long-term cancer risk to communities near commercial sterilizing facilities. This is a blatant example of environmental injustice.

Outside of bird protection acts of the early 20 th century, protections for water, air and the atmosphere are a late 20 th -century development, created in the wake of Rachel Carson’s 1962 treatise on pesticides, Silent Spring. Of course Justice Alito’s views are also tremendously unpopular.
