These investments must address the most critical threats facing Canada’s fresh waters, including nuisance and toxic algae blooms, toxic chemical and plastic pollution, deforestation, and wetland loss. It is very disappointing to see that this budget does not include much-needed funds to support transit systems now.

Methane is a greenhouse gas that has more heat-trapping power than CO2, although it also clears out of the atmosphere much faster than does CO2. Controlling the methane emissions, some of it from wasteful accidental release at natural gas wells, is critical for controlling global warming. Hopefully not.
