Until 2030 the EU shall emit 55 % less Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG), compared to 1990 levels. This week the European Commission decided in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis to propose an amendment of its GHG-reduction goals for 2030. But given considerable issues with details of the plan, question marks are looming.

With respect to SAF, the government plans to scale up SAF production to at least 3 billion gallons per year by 2030. million to aid in evaluating the safety of new fuels, and over $61 million for projects to advance biofuels and support reduced cost of SAF pathways. Amazon Air purchased 6 million gallons of SAF.

By coincidence rather than design, two different approaches to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the electric power sector have been under discussion by North Carolina agencies since 2021. The two approaches share goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions 70% by 2030 (from a 2005 baseline) and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

The European Parliament (EP) voted on September 14, 2022, to increase the share of renewables in the European Union’s (EU) final energy consumption to 45 percent by 2030 , under the revision of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED), a target also backed by the European Commission (EC) under its “RepowerEU” package.

In a previous blog post , I briefly reviewed some of the innovative strategies to reduce methane emissions from agricultural livestock and rice operations, which have the potential to combat a significant source of global greenhouse gas emissions. This appears to be the only national level agricultural methane target currently in law.
