So the law requires a balancing of consumer costs/system reliability and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The order also directs Duke Energy to further evaluate both onshore and offshore wind projects. Duke Energy’s first carbon reduction IRP will be due in September 2023 and the NCUC will take action on that IRP in 2024.
