The Premier of Alberta has a problem with renewable energy. In August of 2023, Premier Smith imposed a seven-month industry-wide moratorium on new approvals for wind, solar, geothermal, and other forms of renewable energy. The report said that “renewables pose little threat to Alberta’s agriculture and environment.”

The Premier had made it very clear in past statements that she is biased against renewable energy, and instead favours projects that cause pollution, limit Alberta’s future economic growth, and contribute to global climate change. Wind and solar energy are the least expensive sources of energy in Canada.

The new solar site, owned by Four Twelve Renewables , will partner with the Dollar Energy Fund to ensure proceeds from the site go towards helping to lower utility bills in low-income communities.
