As of 2021, 30 emissions trading systems were in force globally, covering 16 – 17 % of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It would be interesting for Chinese regulators to consider moving more aggressively here in the power sector, given the availability of alternative electricity sources like wind and solar.
