Introduction One of the main messages coming out of the recent COP28 meetings in the UAE concerns the role that nuclear power can play in the future of clean energy development around the world. The hope is that this encourages international financial institutions to include nuclear energy in loans for energy projects.

This is a signal not only of the country’s unhealthy reliance on fossil fuels but also a failure to move away from gas in a way that other countries have done successfully. Despite the government`s big talk on climate action , the country has hardly made a dent in easing its reliance on gas in recent years.

Japan, a long-time supporter of nuclear power, now has serious hydrogen ambitions. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be powered by hydrogen.
