The AMOC: tipping this century, or not?

Real Climate

If the AMOC weakens, this region will cool. And in fact it is cooling – it’s the only region on Earth which has cooled since preindustrial times. that the sea surface temperature there in winter is a good index of AMOC strength, based on a high-resolution climate model. They aren’t trying to end fossil fuels.

Analysis: How fast can we stop Earth from warming??

A Greener Life

If people everywhere stopped burning fossil fuels tomorrow, stored heat would still continue to warm the atmosphere. The radiators are, in fact, cooling down, but their stored heat is still warming the air in the room. Countries aren’t close to ending fossil fuel use. By Richard B. Ricky) Rood.

Antarctic extreme events: ‘All-time records are being shattered not from decades ago, but from the last few years and months’

Frontiers

While the main focus has been on operational activities in Antarctica, global warming caused by fossil-fuel burning by these (and other) countries has left Antarctica on the brink of irreversible change. In the ocean, 19 marine heatwaves have been recorded between 2002 and 2018.

Ask a Scientist: ‘Danger Season’ Summers Disproportionately Harm Disadvantaged Communities

Union of Concerned Scientists

It led to severe disinvestment in urban communities of color, which—because of the lack of funds—have relatively little vegetation and few, if any, public parks, which help keep neighborhoods cool. My COP27 Takeaways from Sharm el-Sheikh

Union of Concerned Scientists

Last month, I returned from COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, where I and a small but mighty group of UCS scientists and advocates sought actions that would dramatically curb and cease fossil fuel emissions, and put science-informed solutions into the hands of communities dealing with already severe climate impacts.
