For the first time, the pact calls for a “phase down” the use of coal and fossil fuel subsidies. Leaders also announced a series of pacts to address aspects of climate change during the conference: Seven countries, led by Denmark and Costa Rica, joined the Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance, which pledges to end their use of fossil fuels.

Countries pledge to combat deforestation, cut methane emissions, transition away from coal and more. More than 100 countries pledged to halt deforestation by 2030. Canada and other countries pledged to stop public financing of fossil fuel projects abroad by the end of 2023. Nominations should be provided on or before Nov.
