I distinctly remember the rotten egg smell of sulfur dioxide hanging over the Flats whenever we went downtown. You got involved in a “waters of the United States” (WOTUS) case against the Trump administration EPA in 2020 that predated the Supreme Court ruling. That ruling will certainly complicate efforts to protect US waterways.

That would of course include fossil gas, which consists of 85 to 90 percent methane, a significantly more potent heat-trapping gas than carbon dioxide. Shy’s study provided a shining example of the threat posed by industrial pollution that galvanized public attention in the late 1960s and led to the first Earth Day in April 1970.
