This is outrageous, especially given that Ontario successfully phased out coal-fired power plants between 2005 and 2017 and brought down greenhouse gas emissions from the electricity sector by 93 per cent. Ontario recently announced it would contract new polluting gas plants to generate electricity for the province.

Ontario has a successful track record when it comes to building renewable power. Between 2005 and 2017 Ontario phased-out coal plants, reducing greenhouse gas pollution from our electricity system by 93 per cent. And between 2009 and 2016, Ontario built over 2000 MW of solar power and about 3000 MW of wind power.

As the province with the second highest greenhouse gas emissions in Canada, not doing enough to reduce these emissions is bad for the future of not just Ontario, but the whole country. .
