According to the IPCC, global emissions must be cut in half by 2030 to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, and IEA research shows it can be done. The US has pledged to cut its emissions 50 to 52 percent below 2005 levels by 2030—though we have yet to secure the policies to deliver on that goal.

The settlement agreement requires the developer to ensure that specified actions to address greenhouse gas emissions and air quality are carried out, as well as actions related to biological resources and community benefits. In effect, plaintiffs allege, this would allow Brazil to emit 400 million more tonnes by 2030.

It was reported in January that a developer had filed a lawsuit in California Superior Court challenging the City of Santa Rosa’s law requiring appliances in new homes of three stories or less to use electricity rather than natural gas. The developer previously filed a lawsuit challenging a natural gas ban in the Town of Windsor.
