We have direct AMOC measurements only since 2004, a time span too short for this type of study. Not in summer when the ocean is covered by a shallow surface mixed layer heated by the sun and highly dependent on weather conditions.) I’ve seen two main arguments there. Do the data used really describe changes in AMOC? It looks like this.

The longevity of naturally occurring carbon sinks, like those in Earth’s forests, is a key part of all modeled and projected pathways to net-zero. Without the considerable carbon absorption capacity of our lands (and oceans), we’d currently have much more CO 2 in the atmosphere and an accelerated timeline of warming.
