Researchers have suspected that pathological structures in the brain called amyloid plaques, which have been implicated in Alzheimer’s disease, might be where some of this damage happens. X-ray microscopy images (left) obtained from two Alzheimer’s plaque cores showed the presence of iron and copper deposits.
