As it became clear that the growth in the global birth rate had peaked, Malthusian thinkers started to look to climate change as a replacement apocalypse for overpopulation and resource scarcity. The whole point of referring to Hiroshima was to raise the specter of nuclear weapons explosion. Why else use it?
