Biodegradable : Used to describe substances and the ability of microorganisms (bacteria, algae) to break it down. There may also be requirements on what technologies must be used for mitigation such as the use of catalytic converters in cars that used older lead fuel (6).

Water reuse involves recycling wastewater for beneficial use - for example, watering your lawn with your washing machine water. We are also trying to recycle wastewater sludges for fertilizer, but there are similar issues. Recycling is a great idea, but we must remember that they call it “waste” for a reason.
