Appalachian Audubon Society Chapter Offering Scholarships To Hog Island Audubon Camp In Maine

The
Appalachian Audubon Society Chapter is now accepting applications for Tom Johnson Memorial Scholarships to the Hog Island Audubon Camp in Maine.  The deadline to apply is January 29.

A one-week camp will be held from June 23 -28 for students ages 14 to 17 interested in ornithology.  The camp includes a week of instruction and activities.

Scholarships cover the entire camp fee.  Applicants must arrange and pay for their own transportation to and from the Audubon dock in Bremen, Maine, at the start and end of the session.

First consideration will be given to applicants living in the membership region (Cumberland, Dauphin, northern York and Perry counties); others in south-central Pennsylvania may qualify. You do not need to be an AAS member to apply.

"The recipients from last year presented their experiences to the Chapter and have since started a young birders group within our Chapter," said Marilyn Glace, Education Chair for AAS.  "They impressed me with their enthusiasm and the drive to get the word out about birds and the environment. This is a unique and special opportunity for any student that has a love of the outdoors - beginner birders are welcome!"
