Thanks to the strong participation of the community, the two-day event collected and properly disposed of over 19 tons of hazardous materials, protecting both public health and the local environment.
In addition, CCRRA held a free Tire Collection Event the following weekend where 134 residents dropped off over 1,600 tires to be recycled.
Over 1,000 residents from across Centre County took part in these special collection events.
“We’re incredibly pleased with the turnout and thankful to Centre County residents for their continued commitment to safe, sustainable waste disposal,” said Mimi Cooper, CCRRA’s Recycling Coordinator. “These materials, when disposed of improperly, can pose serious risks to our soil, water, and wildlife. Events like this ensure that doesn’t happen.”
The success of the Household Hazardous Waste Collection event was made possible through the collaboration of CCRRA staff and contractor MXI, who oversaw the safe transport and disposal of all materials collected.
The tires were transported to Mahantango Enterprises, Inc., in Liverpool, PA for recycling.
CCRRA reminds residents that while these events are held annually, many items—such as electronics, batteries, compact fluorescent bulbs and tires —can be recycled at the authority’s facility year-round.
