Associate Editor mentoring: 2023 applications now open

If you are less than five years post-PhD, based in or from the Global South, and looking to develop your editorial experience alongside a revered board of Senior Editors, why not apply for the Journal of Applied Ecology Associate Editor mentoring opportunity?

Each year the board welcomes new mentee Associate Editors with little or no editorial experience to take up this training post and gain experience of working on a relevant and well-respected journal. This voluntary two-year position includes:

  • An appointed Senior Editor to provide guidance, support and a sounding board for questions and ideas
  • In-house support from the Editorial office – we take care of the routine work so you can focus on the science
  • Experience in the peer review process for a high-impact journal, including assessing content, selecting reviewers and making recommendations to Senior Editors
  • The opportunity to share your ideas for future journal initiatives

The success of our mentoring scheme means that we now receive applications from far more people than the number of opportunities we can offer. Therefore, from 2021, this program will only recruit applicants based in the Global South (as defined here), hopefully helping researchers from this part of the world to develop their research agenda by engaging with international networks. Researchers from the Global South with temporary research positions in the Global North will still be eligible.

How to apply:

Please fill out this form, providing a short statement outlining your views and experiences of publishing, areas of expertise, and stating which Senior Editor would be most appropriate for your research area. If you have any questions abut the role or the programme more generally, please send them to thomas@britishecologicalsociety.org. Deadline for applications: 4 October 2022.
