With the doors closed on 2023, the new year offers the chance to look back at the progress the United States has made in emissions reduction and clean energy deployment. The 12th annual Sustainable Energy in America Factbook allows us to do just that, and this year’s findings are clear: America’s all-of-the-above energy policies are working to reduce emissions.
The Factbook, produced annually by the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) and BloombergNEF, provides valuable year-over-year data and insights on the American energy transformation.
The 2024 Sustainable Energy in America Factbook found a combination of natural gas (43 percent) and renewable energy (23 percent) provided the majority of U.S. electricity supply in 2023.
To highlight the 2024 Factbook release, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) Forum President Heather Reams participated in a panel discussion on the factbook’s key insights. Moderated by Tom Rowlands-Rees, Head of Research of North America at BloombergNEF, Heather joined fellow panelists Teresa Christopher, Head of Climate, Sustainability, and Environmental Policy at Amazon, Damon Dozier, Director of Government Relations at Covanta, Allison Hull, Director of Federal Government Affairs at Sempra, and Mark Lessans, Senior Director of Sustainability and Regulatory Affairs at Johnson Controls.
Heather discussed how embracing an all-of-the-above strategy is the key to providing affordable, reliable and clean power to homes and businesses across the country.
