Penn State Center for Ag Conservation Training, Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professionals Host 3-Part Riparian Buffers On Ag Lands Training Starting June 23

The
Penn State Center for Ag Conservation Assistance Training and the Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional Program will offer a 3-part course covering planning, implementing, and managing riparian forest buffers in agricultural settings.

This training is intended for County Conservation District Staff and other conservation professionals working with ag conservation cost-share programs in Pennsylvania.

This highly interactive course will be held in Port Royal, Juniata County.

The workshops will be held--

-- June 23: Buffer Basics Webinar (online via Zoom), 9:00 a.m. to Noon

-- June 28: Site Assessment Workshop (field + classroom), 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

-- June 29: Maintenance Workshop (field + classroom), 9:00 a.m. to Noon

Training topics include:

-- An introduction to riparian buffers as a tool to improve water quality.

-- Summary of existing cost-share and funding programs available in PA

-- Site assessment and understanding of farmer needs and preferences.

-- Riparian buffer design

-- How to incorporate streambank fencing, livestock crossings, and alternative watering sources.

-- Site preparation

-- Tree planting and tree shelter installation instruction

-- Maintenance needs, including typical maintenance tasks and invasive plant ID.

-- How to develop a simple management plan and schedule

The training is free to attend.  Attendees will receive a CBLP-Buffers certificate of completion after participating in all three days. 

To help discourage "no-shows" and ensure we can fill as many seats as possible, participants whose plans change after registering are kindly asked to cancel no later than June 16. 

Any late cancellations or no-shows will be invoiced at $250 per person for the cost of training.
