Asbury Woods Environmental Center Hosts Trout In The Classroom Release May 11 In Erie

The
Asbury Woods Environmental Center will host a Trout In The Classroom trout release event on May 11 at
Lake Pleasant Conservation Area in Erie from 10:00 a.m. to Noon.

The eggs were provided to Asbury Woods by the Fish & Boat Commission and Trout Unlimited in January and were raised in tanks in the Asbury Woods exhibit hall.

Now that the trout have reached the fingerling stage of their lifecycle, it’s time to let them go! Asbury Woods invites the public to help us release the trout into Lake Pleasant.

Timed slots are available for free online registration. Each participant will receive 1 -2 trout to release per registration.

“Asbury Woods raised our first batch of trout in 2023.  After successfully raising them and releasing them into Lake Pleasant last year, we’re excited to offer a chance for the public to be a part of the release this year. We are grateful to have local partners join us to support this initiative which is a wonderful intersection of our environmental education and conservation mission,” said Jennifer Farrar, Executive Director at Asbury Woods.

Sponsors of this project include: Angelo's Salon Development Group, Trout Unlimited, Fish and Boat Commission, PA Steelhead Association, ErieBank, and National Fuel.

This activity is part of the national Remake Learning Days festival. #ReMakeDays

PA Trout in the Classroom has been providing classrooms with the unique experience of raising their own trout from egg to fingerling for over 30 years.

This program, in partnership with Trout Unlimited, typically reaches over 100,000 students annually across the country.  The program has been in Pennsylvania since 2006, resulting in classrooms raising and releasing brown, rainbow, and brook trout.
