Fast electrons accelerate the production of medical isotopes

Physics World

Technetium-99m ( 99m Tc) is a metastable radionuclide that emits gamma radiation which can be detected in the body by a medical gamma camera. The target survived five consecutive days of extreme radiation. The international consortium is hopeful that by 2028 there will be a factory producing radioisotopes for hospitals worldwide.

PRISMAP consortium to fast-track nuclear medicine research

Physics World

The particular use of a medical radionuclide depends on its physical characteristics, such as its radioactive half-life and the type of radiation it emits. bn by 2028. One example is targeted radionuclide therapy, a growing area of interest for cancer treatment, where there is an ongoing search for new radionuclides that can be used.
