Strategies identified in a new industrial decarbonization roadmap would slash carbon emissions by 84% by 2050 in Pennsylvania, achieving crucial climate goals, yielding billions in annual savings, growing jobs, and improving public health, according to a new analysis prepared for the Ohio River Valley Institute.
The roadmap describes how to transition away from fossil fuel generation, fast-track electrification, increase energy efficiency, and leverage new technologies, including material efficiency, fuel switching, and carbon capture.
“Continuing business-as-usual means sacrificing the health of our families, the well-being of our climate, and the strength of our economy,” said Joanne Kilgour, Executive Director of the Ohio River Valley Institute. “Decarbonizing our industrial sector helps us build a better future for all Pennsylvanians, and our new analysis outlines how we can achieve unprecedented emissions reductions with an appropriate sense of urgency.”
