Janice Bashford Joins Arnold & Porter’s Legislative & Public Policy Practice in Washington, DC
WASHINGTON, DC, March 1, 2021 — Arnold & Porter announced today that Janice Bashford has joined the firm’s Legislative and Public Policy practice as a Senior Policy Advisor, resident in Washington, DC. Most recently, Ms. Bashford served as Legislative Director and Chief Counsel to Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-CA), a position she has held since 2016. Ms. Bashford has previously served in senior roles for DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), and, earlier in her career, in staff positions for US Senator John Kerry (D-MA) and on the field operations team of the 2008 Obama-Biden campaign.

With more than 15 years of legislative experience, Ms. Bashford played a key role in negotiating and advancing legislation and other initiatives on a range of issues including the judiciary, appropriations, foreign affairs, child welfare, civil and human rights, voting rights, immigration, health, labor, intellectual property and copyright, and the COVID-19 response. She also has worked closely with members of the House Ways and Means Committee, the House Judiciary Committee, the Congressional Black Caucus, and the Congressional Tri-Caucus.

Ms. Bashford earned her JD from Georgetown University Law Center and received her BA from American University, where she was an Arthur Shackler Scholar.
