CI is a measure of the amount of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO 2 e) emitted per unit of energy provided by that fuel, taking into account the GHG emissions over the lifecycle of the fuel — including production, transportation to market, and consumption. The LCFS Program sets annual CI standards that decline over time.
