Just two months before COP26, the government released Vietnam’s eighth power development plan (PDP8) which covered 2021–2030 and relied heavily on foreign investment in non-renewable energy. The PDP8 would have doubled coal power capacity by 2030, with more to come in the five years after that. Investment drying up.

I came across several articles on my home country lately and thought it was the occasion to keep everyone updated on how the French energy transition is going on. Advocates of renewable energy have argued since the 1970s that the variable, weather-dependent nature of sunlight and wind is a modest obstacle at best to relying on 100 percent renewables. Some have argued that weather-dependent energies would, paradoxically, make electricity even more reliable.
